With Super Bowl XLVI 2012 airing this upcoming Sunday, February 5th, the “Big Dog” companies from Volkswagen to Samsung are eagerly lining up to lock in their ad spaces to show during the game’s commercial breaks. There is an estimated 100 million viewers who will be glued to their couches watching this year’s game which will garner enough dialated pupils to satisfy the advertising company’s expectations.
Fortunately for NBC’s TV network, Comcast, a 30-second ad spot is gonna run companies a whopping $3.5- 4 million dollars, up 50% from last year’s Super Bowl slots that ran about $2.5- 3 million.
Its pretty obvious that Facebook and Twitter have a great deal to do with this price increase. Not only will people be tweeting and updating their Facebook wall, the funniest and most witty ads will most likely be revisited on Youtube to be watched and shared a million more times after the game.
Social media has placed much more value on Super Bowl ads due to the fact that social media is currently the most effective way to express yourself. The social media phenomenon ensures people hear opinions directly from the brand or personality they subscribe to. Facebook and Twitter are more than cool platforms for reaching your friends, its also used for business and marketing!
